The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.

Surat Al-Ĥadīd (The Iron) –

Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children — like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion. | QS 57:20

Those who have gone to school know that when the teacher says — we have an exam next week, any student who cares about his/her grade will prepare for that exam.

Usually you will see students worrying about the exam and skipping sleep just so they can study and prepare for their exam, why? Because they want to do well — a good student’s goal is to get the best possible grade on that exam so they studies, prepares, and finally on the day of the exam they are well-prepared and ready to take the test.

“The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.” Just like we are tested in school to see if we are prepared for the next level, in our lives too we are tested.

We are all students in this life. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتعال ) told us that believers will be tested in various ways. Jannah (paradise) is not easy to get in to — you have to work for it. Simply saying ‘I am Muslim (believe)’ will not be enough. You have to prove you’re dedicated to Allah and to His teachings & religion and to prove that, of course there will be tests in life that are or will be difficult.

May The Almighty put ease throughout each trials and tribulation in this life and may He put strength for for to encompass our worldly tests in this dun’ya.

Aamiin Ya Rabbi.
